For the time being, let’s ignore radical innovations such as superintelligence and genetic manipulation. What might Apple CEO Tim Cook’s vision for Apple’s future services look like?
Laura, a 27-year-old care giver in a nursing home, uses Sirion, a digital coach, in the year 2040. Since I have been coaching Laura and her boyfriend Hugo, I have built digital twins of them and consequently know their needs and their capabilities. I also have a model of their behavior, so I know exactly what benefits them. Laura and Hugo live with Hugo’s parents and can therefore save a lot. However, they both know very little about money. A share portfolio guarantees at least a small return.

A savings account generates less than what inflation and tax would take out. You lack the knowledge to choose shares on your own. Crypto currencies are purely speculative. I analyze his posts on Instagram, the websites he visits, the messages he reads and the messages that refer to him on Telegram. And I also, of course, analyze his friends’ posts on social media. Hugo also meets up with his friends for a beer every Thursday evening.

How could you know that?

The names of his friends are in the WhatsApp and Apple address directories, his meeting locations come from Hugo’s navigation system and his beer consumption comes from the bills at the pub and occasionally the supermarket. On that matter, Hugo’s beer consumption could also become a health problem. His body mass index has been deteriorating for three years, as has his cardio fitness. Hugo could easily save an extra 100 euros a month if he reduced his consumption a little.

You know a hell of a lot about Hugo and me. Who all has access to my health data? Hugo, my parents, my employer, my health insurance, my bank, my favorite restaurant?

Your car insurance company could grant you a bonus based on your rather passive driving behavior if they are allowed to read your driving data as well as your pulse and blood pressure.

This is so complicated. I don’t know what ideas shady business people could come up with. Whose interests are you actually serving? Mine, those of your developers and owners, those of the consumer goods manufacturers, those of my employer, those of my government, those of the techno-oligarchs? I already feel overwhelmed again.

You feel the same as everyone else. In the past, users of digital services confirmed that they had read, understood and agreed to the general terms and conditions, including data protection. This was referred to occasionally as the biggest lie on the Internet. I am offering to take this decision off your shoulders. The Human Life Board ensures that digital services pursue all people’s needs, not just capital and power.
